Being sick isn't any fun for any of us, and if you know someone who is sick, try one of my favorite recipes to make for someone sick to help them feel better. I love whipping up something healing for a family member or friend when they aren't feeling well. There are some classic recipes I love that you can base your recipes off of. You can also use any ingredients you have on hand for most of these, like leftover vegetables or freezer foods. Feel free to substitute items out for ones you might not have and use ingredients that you do have on hand that might work instead. Whatever you do, be sure to add a touch of love and care with each one that you make. Recipes to make for someone sick are one of the ultimate gifts of love you could ever give!
1 Classic Chicken Soup
Ingredients:
1 pack of boneless, skinless chicken breasts, thawed and chopped
2 whole bay leaves
1 large onion, chopped
3 ribs of celery, chopped
10 baby carrots, chopped in half
8 cups of water
2 parsnips, chopped (optional but recommended)
1 turnip, chopped (optional but recommended)
½ tsp. sea salt (I like Himalayan for the raw nutrients)
Ground black pepper
½ tsp. rubbed sage
½ tsp. oregano
Directions:
Place all ingredients in a large slow cooker for 8 hours on medium, or on low overnight. Or you can bring everything to a boil on the stove in a large pot. Reduce the heat to low and then cook for an additional ½ to 2 hours. After it is done cooking, sprinkle any additional seasonings on top. Just be sure to take out the bay leaf; it's not edible but is necessary for the ultimate healing power, so don't leave it out! Serve in a bowl, then sprinkle black pepper over the top.

2 Hot Bowl of Oats
Ingredients:
½ cup rolled oats
½ cup water
½ cup almond milk
3 tbsp. organic canned pumpkin
½ tsp. pure stevia extract or your choice sweetener.
1 tsp. cinnamon
Dash of dried ginger
Pinch of Himalayan sea salt
Directions:
Heat the water on a pot on the stovetop on medium and bring it to a low boil. Reduce the heat to medium low and stir in the oats, almond milk and the pumpkin. Let this cook for 5 minutes, covered, stirring once in between. Stir this until well combined and then add the spices and salt. Put the lid on and reduce the heat to low for 5-7 more minutes, stirring once and then serve. This makes for a pretty thick oatmeal, which I like. If you like yours thinner, add in ¼ cup- ½ cup more almond milk. If you can stomach it, pecans make a great topping, along with walnuts, or maple syrup.

3 Nourishing Vegetable Juice
Ingredients:
½ cup cubed pineapple
2 handfuls of spinach
1 cucumber
2 carrots
1 lemon
½ inch knob of ginger
2 stalks of celery
Directions:
Run through a juicer and enjoy!

4 Vegetable Broth
Ingredients:
Makes about 10 cups of broth
Ingredients:
10 cups water
2 parsnips, chopped
2-3 Tbs olive oil
1-2 large onions, chopped
1 lb celery, chopped
1 lb carrots, washed but unpeeled, chopped
3 whole cloves garlic
1 bay leaf
10 whole black peppercorns
2 tsp sea salt
2-3 tbs tomato paste ( or sauce, or 1 tomato)
A few sprigs rosemary (parsley is more traditional, use a lot)
Optional:
Leeks- chopped
Sweet potato-1, chopped
Mushrooms- ½ cup
Celery root- 1 root, chopped
Peppers- any you like, chopped
Turnip - 1, chopped
Any greens like kale, collards, spinach, shredded
Zucchini, 1 chopped
Fennel, 1 bulb, chopped
Directions: Boil the water for one minute on the stove in a large pot. Add in the ingredients, making sure they are chopped as directed. Boil ten more minutes, then reduce to medium heat, cooking for one hour. Turn down to low and cook 1 more hour. Once done, strain this through a cheesecloth, strainer or nutmilk bag into a large bowl or container. Transfer to individual storage containers. You can even freeze these long term. I also like to put this in a slow cooker if I'm making it the night before, or I put it on first thing in the morning and let it cook for 12 hours on low. It makes for a more intense flavor, but the stovetop method is great too.

5 Ginger Tea
Ingredients:
1-2 cups hot water
3 slices of fresh ginger root
Juice from one lemon
Dash of cayenne
Directions:
Boil the water on the stove in a pot, or run it through a coffee maker without a filter to heat it up. After it is done heating or boiling, add the rest of the ingredients and serve while warm. Drink this all day long if you like; it is amazing!

6 Classic Vegetable Soup
Ingredients:
1 large onion; medium dice
1 large carrot; medium dice
2 stalks celery; medium dice
1 tbsp. coconut oil
2 cloves fresh garlic; minced
1 tsp. basil
1 tsp. thyme
1 tsp. marjoram
1 tsp. oregano
3 cups canned diced tomato
1 beet, cubed
1 large potato; diced
1 quart vegetable stock
¼ cup water
½ tsp. salt
½ lb. frozen peas
¼ bunch parsley; washed, dried, and chopped
1 tsp. black pepper
Directions:
In a large stock pot, sauté onion, carrots, and celery in oil until tender. Add garlic and herbs and cook until fragrant. Add tomatoes, beet, water and potato. Then, add stock. Simmer until all vegetables are tender. Add peas, parsley, and season with salt and pepper. Taste and adjust seasoning if needed.

7 A Cold Creamy Smoothie
Ingredients:
1/2 cup frozen pineapple
1/2 cup frozen raspberries
2 tsp. goji berries or goji powder
5 frozen strawberries
2 handfuls spinach
1 teaspoon of your favorite greens powder ( I like Amazing Grass ORAC berry flavor in this smoothie)
½ cup your favorite yogurt ( I like plain Greek)
1 cup almond milk
Stevia or honey to sweeten if needed
Directions:
Blend in the order listed and serve.
